THE GEM STORY

The Gem Story — Three Generations of Plumbing, One Gold Coast Family

Some businesses are built on ambition. Ours was built on a tradition.

Gem Plumbing Experts is owned and operated by John Crossley and his daughter Samantha — a father and daughter team who between them represent the 3rd generation of their family to work in the plumbing trade. John’s grandfather and father worked in plumbing before him, and John has spent his entire career building on that foundation of expertise, craftsmanship and integrity.

Samantha grew up watching her dad work — learning not just the technical side of the trade, but what it means to run a business with genuine care for every customer. Today, she co-owns and manages the business alongside John, bringing fresh energy, a commitment to modern marketing and customer experience, and the same family values that have always defined the way Gem operates.

Together, John and Samantha have grown Gem from a hot water focused business — trading as Gem Home Services — into Gem Plumbing Experts, a full-service plumbing operation covering general plumbing, blocked drains, water filtration and their exciting Kangen water range, alongside the hot water expertise that first built their reputation on the Gold Coast.

The rebrand to Gem Plumbing Experts was a deliberate decision to make it clearer to Gold Coast homeowners exactly who we are and what we do. The name changed. The people didn’t. And the commitment to honest, quality plumbing — the same commitment John’s grandfather brought to his very first job — absolutely hasn’t.

MEET JOHN & SAMANTHA

Meet the Crossleys — The Family Behind Gem Plumbing Experts

Name: John Crossley
Role: Co-Owner & Lead Plumber
Licence: Licensed Plumber — QLD & NSW
Experience: 40+ Years

John’s Bio
John Crossley is a 3rd generation plumber who has spent his entire working life in the trade his family helped build. With over 40 years of hands-on experience across the Gold Coast, John has worked on everything from the simplest tap repair to complex hot water system installations, drain repairs and water filtration setups.

John’s particular passion is hot water — he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of every brand and system type on the Australian market, and he takes real satisfaction in finding the right solution for every customer rather than just the most convenient one. His reputation on the Gold Coast has been built job by job, over four decades, on the simple principle that honest work done well speaks for itself.

When he’s not on the tools, John is mentoring the next generation of plumbers — and working alongside his daughter Samantha to grow Gem Plumbing Experts into the Gold Coast’s most trusted family plumbing business.

Name: Samantha Crossley
Role: Co-Owner & Business Manager

Samantha’s Bio
Samantha Crossley grew up with plumbing — watching her dad John work, learning the trade from the kitchen table, and developing a deep respect for what it takes to build a business on craftsmanship and trust. Today, she co-owns Gem Plumbing Experts alongside her father and manages the business operations, customer experience and growth strategy that is taking Gem to the next level on the Gold Coast.

Samantha’s role is the engine room of the business — from customer enquiries and bookings through to marketing, service development and the exciting expansion into water filtration and Kangen water systems. She is passionate about making sure every customer interaction with Gem is as professional, warm and helpful as the plumbing work John and the team deliver on site.

Together, John and Samantha are proof that a family business built on real expertise and genuine values is still the best kind of business there is — and they are determined to make Gem Plumbing Experts the Gold Coast name that homeowners trust above all others for their plumbing needs.

OUR VALUES SECTION

What We Believe In — The Values Behind Every Gem Job

Honesty First, Every Time

We tell you what your plumbing actually needs — not what makes us the most money. If a repair is the right answer, we’ll say so. If replacement is more cost-effective in the long run, we’ll tell you that too. Our reputation is built on straight talking, and we’re not going to compromise that for the sake of a bigger invoice.

Quality That Lasts

Three generations of plumbing has taught us one thing above all else — cutting corners today creates problems tomorrow. Every job we do is completed to the standard we’d expect if it were our own home. We use quality materials, we work cleanly and carefully, and we don’t leave until the job is done right.

Respect for Your Home

We know you’re trusting us with your home, and we take that seriously. Our team arrives in uniform, treats your property with care, and cleans up after every job. We’ve all had tradespeople in our own homes — we know what good service feels like, and that’s the experience we aim to deliver every single time.

Local Knowledge, Local Commitment

We’re not a national franchise with a call centre three states away. We’re a Gold Coast family business, based in Coolangatta, and this community is our community. When you support Gem, you’re supporting a local family that has been part of the Gold Coast for over 40 years — and that genuinely matters to us.

Accessible Service for Every Budget

Plumbing emergencies don’t wait for payday, and we believe everyone deserves access to quality plumbing when they need it. That’s why we offer $0 call out fees during business hours, upfront honest pricing, and flexible payment plans through Humm and Brighte for larger jobs like hot water system replacements.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — About Gem Plumbing Experts

Gem Plumbing Experts is owned and operated by John Crossley and his daughter Samantha Crossley. John is a 3rd generation plumber with over 40 years of experience, and Samantha co-owns and manages the business alongside him. Together they run a family business built on decades of Gold Coast plumbing expertise and a genuine commitment to every customer they serve.

Gem Plumbing Experts has been serving the Gold Coast community for over 40 years. Our lead plumber John Crossley is a 3rd generation tradesperson — plumbing has been in the Crossley family for three generations. The business recently rebranded from Gem Home Services to Gem Plumbing Experts, but the team, values and commitment to quality remain exactly the same.

Gem Plumbing Experts is a locally owned, family-run business — not a franchise. John and Samantha Crossley own and operate the business from Coolangatta on the Gold Coast. When you call Gem, you’re dealing directly with the family who owns the business, not a call centre or a national operation.

Yes. Gem Plumbing Experts holds current plumbing licences in both Queensland and New South Wales. This allows us to carry out fully compliant plumbing work across the Gold Coast and into the Northern NSW region, including Tweed Heads, Kingscliff and Casuarina.

We rebranded to Gem Plumbing Experts to more clearly communicate what we do to Gold Coast homeowners. Our previous name, Gem Home Services, didn’t immediately tell people we were plumbers. The new name is clearer and more direct — but the family behind the business, and everything we stand for, is exactly the same.
